Terms of Service
Last updated July 6, 2026 · Effective July 6, 2026
1. Introduction and Acceptance
Parquecasa Publishing (“Parquecasa”, “we”, “us”) is a sole proprietorship operated by Caleb Parkhouse, based in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern all transactions on, and use of, the website parquecasapublishing.com (the “Site”), including the purchase of any items offered for sale through it.
By placing an order, you (“you”, the “customer”) agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not place an order.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision, and the Terms in effect at the time you place an order govern that order.
2. The Products — Cover-Only Sales Model
This section is important and specific to how Parquecasa operates. Please read it before ordering.
Parquecasa sells single, used, vintage science fiction paperback books. Each listing intentionally displays only a photograph of the book’s cover artwork and a codename identifier in the format “PCASA-###”. Listings do not disclose the book’s title, author, publication year, plot, subject matter, or other identifying textual information at the time of purchase.
2.1 By placing an order, you acknowledge and agree that you are purchasing a curated cover-art object whose textual contents are intentionally undisclosed at the point of sale.
2.2 You acknowledge that the book revealed upon delivery may be of any subject matter, style, theme, or literary quality within the vintage science fiction category, and that you are purchasing on that basis.
2.3 The identity of the physical book is revealed only when it arrives in your possession.
2.4 Each listing is a single, unique, one-of-one copy. Once it sells, it is no longer available.
2.5 The condition of each book is disclosed in its listing using a simple grade: fair, good, very good, or fine.
2.6 All books are used and vintage and may show signs of age consistent with their era, including but not limited to yellowed or toned pages, spine wear, creasing, and previous-ownership markings.
This cover-only model is a deliberate feature of the service. Please do not order if you are not comfortable purchasing a book without knowing its title, author, or contents in advance.
3. Prices, Payment, and Currency
- All prices are displayed in Canadian dollars (CAD).
- The price shown for a listing is the total price; no sales tax is added at checkout. This reflects that used books are exempt from BC Provincial Sales Tax (PST), and that Parquecasa currently operates below the CA$30,000 annual-revenue threshold for federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) small-supplier registration (see Section 12).
- If our tax status changes in the future — for example, if we become required to register for GST — prices and tax handling may be updated, and any applicable tax will be shown before you complete checkout.
- Payment is processed by Shopify through Shopify Payments. Shopify handles credit card processing; Parquecasa does not receive or store your full credit card information.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the billing and shipping information you provide.
4. Shipping and Delivery
- Books ship from Powell River, British Columbia.
- We offer standard shipping within Canada. Shipping to the United States is available at additional cost. International shipping (outside Canada and the US) is not currently offered except by prior arrangement — email us before ordering.
- Based on Canada Post standard service, estimated delivery is approximately 2–7 business days within Canada and 5–14 business days to the United States. These are estimates, not guarantees; actual times depend on the carrier.
- Risk of loss passes to you once the shipment is confirmed with the carrier.
- If your package is lost or damaged in transit, contact us within 14 days of the expected delivery date so we can help resolve it (see Section 5).
- Shipping charges are non-refundable except where a return or replacement is required due to an error on our part.
5. Returns and Refunds
Because our listings intentionally do not disclose a book’s title, author, or subject matter (see Section 2), the following applies:
5.1 Dissatisfaction with the revealed book’s genre, plot, era, author, or literary content is not a valid reason for return. This is inherent to the cover-only model you agreed to at purchase.
5.2 We accept returns only where: (a) the physical condition of the delivered book materially differs from the condition grade stated in the listing; (b) the cover artwork of the delivered book does not match the cover shown in the listing; or (c) the book arrives damaged in transit (subject to Section 4).
5.3 To initiate a return, email caleb.parkhouse@gmail.com within 14 days of delivery, describing the issue.
5.4 If a return is approved, the book must be shipped back within 14 days of approval, in the condition in which it was received.
5.5 Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5–10 business days of our receiving the returned book.
5.6 Outbound and return shipping charges are non-refundable except where the return is due to our error.
Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable rights you have under BC consumer protection law (see Sections 7–9).
6. Intellectual Property
- All cover artwork appearing on Parquecasa listings and marketing materials is the copyrighted property of the original artists, publishers, or estate rights-holders. Parquecasa does not claim ownership of any underlying cover artwork.
- Our photographs of covers are original works created to describe the specific physical objects we offer for sale, consistent with common practice in the used-book trade.
- The Parquecasa name, wordmark, and site design — including layout, typography, original photography, and written content — are the copyright and, where applicable, trademarks of Caleb Parkhouse. All rights reserved.
- Rights-holder contact and takedown: If you are an artist, rights-holder, or authorized representative and believe your work is being used in a way you wish to address, contact caleb.parkhouse@gmail.com. We will respond promptly to discuss removal or resolution.
- The physical book you purchase remains a physical object that you own. Consistent with the first-sale principle in Canadian copyright law, you may read it, resell it, lend it, or dispose of it. You do not receive any reproduction rights to the cover artwork or to the book’s contents.
7. Warranties and Disclaimers
- All books are sold “as-is” as used, vintage objects.
- Our descriptions and condition grades reflect our good-faith assessment. You acknowledge that used books have inherent variability and that minor wear consistent with age is expected.
- To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Parquecasa disclaims the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
7.1 BC consumer protection law establishes certain rights and warranties that cannot be waived or excluded. Nothing in these Terms is intended to waive, exclude, or limit any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be waived under the laws of British Columbia. Where any provision of these Terms conflicts with such a non-waivable right, that right prevails.
8. Limitation of Liability
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, Parquecasa’s total liability arising out of or relating to any single transaction is limited to the amount you paid for the book(s) in that transaction.
- Parquecasa is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages.
8.1 As in Section 7, BC consumer protection law contains protections that cannot be limited or excluded. Those protections apply regardless of this section, and nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
- These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
- Any dispute arising from a purchase may be brought before the courts of British Columbia or, where applicable, the British Columbia Civil Resolution Tribunal (CRT).
- You retain all rights available to you under BC consumer protection law, including the right to bring an action in court or before the CRT. These Terms do not require arbitration, do not waive your right to participate in a class or collective proceeding, and do not restrict your right to write or publish reviews of your experience.
10. Changes to These Terms
- We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
- Material changes will be posted on this page.
- Placing a new order after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The Terms in effect at the time of a given order govern that order.

12. Regulatory and Tax Notice
- Parquecasa Publishing operates as a sole proprietorship owned by Caleb Parkhouse.
- Parquecasa currently operates below the CA$30,000 annual-revenue threshold for GST small-supplier registration and is not currently registered for GST/HST.
- No GST or PST is added at checkout: used books are exempt from BC PST, and Parquecasa is not currently a GST registrant.
- If our revenue crosses the small-supplier threshold, or registration otherwise becomes required, we will update our pricing and tax handling accordingly, and any applicable tax will be shown before checkout.
