Why

For forty years, the future was sold in paperback for less than a dollar: imagined by writers paid by the word, painted by artists paid by the cover, printed on paper meant to yellow. It is the fullest record there is of what people once thought was coming. Almost none of it was kept.

How

By treating each copy as what it is. One printing, one edition, one spine opened by particular hands. We photograph it, identify it, describe its wear in plain words, and write down what we know and what we don't.
