Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Parquecasa Publishing (“Parquecasa”, “we”, “us”) is a sole proprietorship operated by Caleb Parkhouse, based in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information collected through parquecasapublishing.com (the “Site”).

This policy is written to comply with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) — for example, to personal information that crosses provincial or national borders in the course of commercial activity.

2. Privacy Officer

As required by PIPA, we have designated a Privacy Officer responsible for our compliance with this policy and applicable privacy law.

3. Personal Information We Collect

3.1 From the Site itself. Very little. The Site sets a single first-party cookie, pcasa_session, a randomly generated identifier used to manage listing reservations during checkout. It is not linked to your identity. We do not run third-party analytics or marketing trackers by default (see Section 12).

3.2 Through Shopify at checkout. When you complete a purchase, our checkout processor, Shopify, collects the information needed to process and fulfill your order, including your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, phone number (if you provide one), and payment card information (processed by Shopify Payments and not stored by us). Shopify also records which listing you purchased.

3.3 From order fulfillment. We retain a record of your orders — what was purchased, when, shipping details, and communications about the order — for our business records.

3.4 What we do not collect. We do not use Google Analytics, the Meta pixel, or third-party advertising or marketing trackers. We do not build marketing profiles of individuals beyond order history. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

4. Purposes of Collection

We collect and use personal information only for the following purposes:

• processing and fulfilling your orders;
• communicating with you about your orders (for example, shipping updates or resolving an issue);
• meeting legal and regulatory obligations (for example, tax and business records, and processing returns); and
• understanding aggregate operational patterns to improve the service. This does not involve profiling or tracking individuals.

5. Consent

• By placing an order, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information for the purposes described in this policy.
• You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting the Privacy Officer. Withdrawing consent may prevent us from fulfilling any pending order.
• Consent is not required for personal information that is reasonably necessary to fulfill an order you have already placed, or to meet a legal obligation.

6. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on a small number of service providers, each of which receives only the information necessary for its role:

• Shopify Inc.— payment processing, checkout hosting, and order management. Shopify’s own privacy policy governs how it handles information collected at our checkout. Shopify may store or process data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States.
• Canada Post — shipping and delivery. We share your name and shipping address for delivery purposes.
• Supabase Inc. — a small technical database (hosted in a Canadian region) that stores only listing state (which listings are sold or temporarily reserved) and anonymous session identifiers. It does not receive your name, address, email, or payment information.
• Vercel Inc. — website hosting infrastructure.

We do not otherwise sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

7. Cross-Border Data Transfers

• As required by PIPA, we disclose that some of our service providers — particularly Shopify — may store or process personal information on servers located outside British Columbia, including in the United States.
• By using the Site and placing an order, you acknowledge that your personal information may be transferred to, and processed in, jurisdictions whose data-protection laws differ from those in British Columbia.
• We use reputable service providers that maintain security practices consistent with Canadian privacy expectations.

8. Data Retention

• We retain order and customer information for as long as required by applicable law — including approximately six years for tax and business records under Canadian law — and for as long as reasonably necessary for legitimate business purposes.
• When retention obligations expire, we dispose of personal information securely.
• You may request earlier deletion of your information, subject to our legal retention obligations (see Section 9).

9. Your Rights Under PIPA

• Right to access. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. We will respond within 30 days, as required by PIPA.
• Right to correction. You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
• Right to withdraw consent. As described in Section 5.
• Right to complain. You may raise a concern with our Privacy Officer at caleb.parkhouse@gmail.com. If we cannot resolve it, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (OIPC) at oipc.bc.ca.

10. Security

• We maintain reasonable technical, physical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
• Payment card information is processed by Shopify under PCI-DSS- compliant systems and is not stored by Parquecasa.
• Communication with the Site is secured using HTTPS.
• No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You acknowledge the inherent risks of transmitting information electronically.

11. Breach Notification

• In the event of a privacy breach that could reasonably be expected to cause significant harm, we will notify affected individuals as required by PIPA.
• We will also notify the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia as required by law.
• Our notification will describe the nature of the breach, the types of information involved, and steps you can take to protect yourself.

12. Cookies and Tracking

• The Site sets one first-party cookie, pcasa_session, a randomly generated session identifier used solely for functional purposes (managing reservations during checkout). It is HTTP-only and expires after seven days.
• We do not set third-party analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies.
• Shopify’s checkout may set its own cookies, as described in Shopify’s privacy policy.
• You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may prevent the reservation and checkout functionality from working.

13. Children’s Information

• The Site and service are not directed to individuals under 16 years of age.
• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
• Our products (vintage science fiction paperbacks) are not intended for or marketed to children.

14. Changes to This Policy

• We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
• Material changes will be posted on this page and take effect upon posting.
